Steve McGillis

Steve McGillis started his career in men's fastball in Cornwall, but has lived and played in South Stormont for 30 years. As well as winning numerous championships in the John Denneny League, Industrial League, and Commercial League, Steve has been recognised for several individual awards, including: 1982 Cornwall Industrial League Rookie of the Year with Glen Services (coached by the late Red Lascelle); 1983 Cornwall & District Softball League's Most Valuable Playoff Pitcher award; 1984 MVP for the Cornwall Industrial League; 1991 team MVP and batting champion for the John Denneny League with Laframboise Mechanical; and the 1993 John Denneny League Sportsman of the Year. In 1996, he was chosen to play with Milverton of the Toronto Senior Fastball League, where he not only played in the Toronto league, but also played in the Senior All-Ontario Championships in St. Thomas and the World Championship Qualifier in Napanee. In 1999, Steve pitched for the Canberra (Australia) Storm in the first Macarthur Cup Fastball Shootout against Australia's best players. That same year, Steve won the 14th Annual World Senior Fastball Tournament in North Bay with his Ottawa team. He has played in three World Masters tournaments, just missing the 2005 medal round in Edmonton, winning silver with Canada in Sydney, Australia in 2008, and winning gold for Canada in Turin, Italy in 2013. He has won the following World Masters Games - Silver in Australia (2009), Gold in Italy (2013), and Bronze in New Zealand (2017). 

Steve pitched for Ingersol, ON in the International Softball Congress World Championships in Kitchener August 8-16, 2014 and for the Grimsby Diamond Kings in the North American Fastball Association World Series in Quad City, Moline, IL September 4-7. He won the NAFA East with the Grimsby Diamond Kings, and played in four world championships with Waterloo (2), Toronto, and Ingersol.

In 2015 Steve won the NAFA title with Minnesota's Jordan Realty in Illinois, and was the first team all star at the ASA's while playing for Michigan in Forsyth Illinois. In 2016 he won the U.S. National Fastball Championship with Arizona in Scottsdale Arizona. 

Recently, he won the ASA championship in 2017 with Arizona in Arizona. 

 

Steve is a two-time winner of the Cornwall Lions Club Sports Award (2008, 2010) for the season's MVP in his sport, and was inducted into the Cornwall Sports Hall of Fame in 2012.
