Melanie Banville
Gymnastics

At the 2003 World Championships in Anaheim, Melanie Banville helped the Canadian Women's Gymnastics team earn one of 12 berths to the 2004 Athens Olympic Games. She finished 54th all-around in the preliminaries, and Canada finished 11th in the team competition. In Athens, Banville was one of two Canadian women to qualify, and placed 24th in the all-around final, helping Canada to a 10th place finish in the team competition. In the Canadian national championships all-around competition, Melanie finished second in 2003, fourth in 2004 and first in 2005. She won team silver medal at the 2003 Pan American Games, where she placed fifth all-around. Banville won the bronze medal on vault at the 2004 Pacific Alliance Championships, where she placed seventh all-around.

Melanie earned an athletic scholarship to the University of Alabama for the 2005-2006 season, where she competed as a freshman. In the fall of 2006, Melanie announced her retirement from gymnastics due to back problems.
