Jim Bancroft
Coach & Athlete
Inducted: 2008
Jim Bancroft has contributed to sports in South Stormont as both an athlete and a coach virtually all his life.
Jim excelled as an athlete while attending Osnabruck District High School. On the basketball court, he played on championship teams as a junior in 1961, a senior in 1962, and in 1963 on the senior team that claimed the EOSSA 'B' Championship and the St. Lawrence League Championship.
In track & field, Jim contributed to three championship teams, including two Meikle Cup Champions in 1962 & 1963.
Following high school and right up to the present, Jim continues to be active in curling, fastball and slowpitch, but it was the sport of broomball that lead to his greatest successes.
After helping to coach a midget girls team to a provincial gold medal in 1990, Jim and Brian Rombough formed the Seaway Valley Devils team in the Finch Broomball League.
The Devils not only won provincial gold medals from 1991 to 1994, but they also went to the Nationals three times during that period - in 1992 when they won a silver medal in St. Hubert Quebec, in 1993 in Cornerbrook, Newfoundland, and in 1994 when they claimed the Bronze medal in Regina.
From 1995 to 2001, Jim coached another ladies broomball team - the Phantoms - who played at the provincial level.
