Gary Leroux

Hockey (Athlete/Coach)

Inducted - 2023

Although born and raised in Cornwall where he played in organized minor hockey and lacrosse, Gary has lived in South Stormont for the past 46 years. He is well known for his playing years with the Cornwall Junior A Royals where he was part of the CJHL powerhouse team for four years from 1963 to 1967. A team that won the League championship in 1966 and 1967, then went on to the Memorial Cup playdowns losing to Soo Greyhounds in the quarterfinals in 1966 and the packed Thetford Mines Jr Canadians team in 1967 in the semifinals that featured future NHL stars of Rejean Houle, Marc Tardiff, Richard Martin and Gilbert Perreault.  Gary also played for the Cornwall Mustangs Junior B lacrosse team in 1966 and 1967. He played for the St Lawrence College Roadrunners hockey team for three seasons where he served as captain in his final year.  This team competed in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association playdowns in North Bay. 

He completed his playing career in the North Stormont Hockey League where he played from 1974 to 1984.

His coaching career began in the South Stormont Minor Hockey Association, initially in House League and then eventually Competitive B teams.  He served as head coach for the Seaway Valley Minor Hockey AA teams from 1994 to 1996 and served on the Seaway Valley AA executive as coaching coordinator from 1994 to 1998.  He was head coach for the Casselman Pirates AAA minor hockey team from 1994 to 1997.  In addition, Gary has held scouting positions with the Brockville Braves Junior A team of the CJHL from 1999 to 2002, and the Cornwall Colts Junior A team from 2002 to 2004.
